Coming into tonight's game against the Calgary Flames, the San Jose Sharks knew that they had to start off on the right foot in order to defeat their hard hitting conference rivals. Well, that's just what Team Teal did...they scored within the first minute of play and jumped to a very early lead. Unfortunately, injuries, untimely penalties, and squandered opportunities cost the Sharks two points.

After coming off a successful road trip, the San Jose Sharks met up with the Tampa Bay Lightning for their first of four consecutive home games. The Bolts have been playing good hockey recently and had beat both the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks before heading north to Silicon Valley for this game. Well, Team Teal made sure that California would not be swept in a very convincing 7 - 1 victory. Though there were a few moments during the game where Tampa Bay was dominating San Jose in puck possession, at no time did they dominate on the scoreboard.

On Saturday night, the San Jose Sharks faced off against the Vancouver Canucks and newly acquired centerman Mats Sundin. In what turned out to be a very tight and competitive matchup, Team Teal was able to skate away with two points making their Western Canada road trip a successful one. After starting off poorly in Calgary, San Jose now heads back home on a two game winning streak thanks in large part to captain Patrick Marleau.

On Friday, the San Jose Sharks defeated the Edmonton Oilers by a score of 4 - 1. I wouldn't call it a dominating performance, but it definitely was a comfortable win. More important than the win itself, it was good to see Team Teal put forth a solid effort after looking so bad against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday. Certain players had big nights, like Marleau and Staubitz, but to be honest, everyone had a pretty good game. Check out the game notes below.

Do you remember when the San Jose Sharks were unstoppable earlier in the season, but everyone stayed cautious and said, "every team hits a rough spot during the season"? Well, I think we've hit that rough spot. I know...we've garnered points in a number of recent OT losses, but it doesn't change the fact that they're still losses. In addition, San Jose is fairly healthy these days, so it's tough to watch them play so poorly out there and Tuesday night's game against the Flames was no different.

On Saturday, the San Jose Sharks launched 47 shots on net...five of which reached the twine. If not for the strong performance by goaltender Joey MacDonald, the New York Islanders would have seen five more reach the back of the net. Fortunately, Team Teal's five goals were enough to bring San Jose's home record to 19-0-2.

On the last day of the year, the San Jose Sharks put together a solid effort against the very hard-working Minnesota Wild. In fact, Team Teal launched 34 shots on net...one of the higher totals in recent weeks. Unfortunately, Team Teal fell short in overtime.

After losing to the worst team in the Western Conference, the San Jose Sharks took on their division rivals in what turned out to be a very competitive match. Thanks to a strong performance from Evgeni Nabokov and some timely goal scoring, Team Teal was able to take two points from the Dallas Stars.

I know that some may think it weird to say that the San Jose Sharks struggled against the St. Louis Blues when they were able to skate away with a point in a shootout loss Saturday. However, if you watched the game, you understand what I'm talking about. For the majority of the game, Team Teal just couldn't get anything going. They didn't look sharp, comfortable, or ready to play. In fact, San Jose found themselves down a goal within the first 26 seconds of the game as the Blues' first shot on goal beat Evgeni Nabokov.

After getting beat up by the Detroit Red Wings, the San Jose Sharks had two opportunities to get back on track before Christmas. Well, Team Teal barely took care of business against the New York Rangers on Saturday, but on Tuesday night, the boys in teal put on a pretty good show for the home crowd. Thanks to a few days off and some solid practice time, Coach Todd McLellan was able to get his team running smoothly once again.
