Potential 1st Round Matchup
Who do I want to face?
Given the current standings, any of the top four teams would be a tough first round matchup. The Nashville Predators lead the league in points, the Anaheim Ducks are not far behind (and have handled the Sharks pretty well all season), the Vancouver Canucks are absolutely on fire with Luongo, and the Detroit Red Wings are an annual Stanley Cup favorite with their All-star defensemen.
To be honest, any one of these teams are scary and to get through the conference quarterfinals will be a feat in itself. And don't forget the bottom half of the standings...Dallas, San Jose, Minnesota, and Calgary...four teams that can do some real damage in the post-season as well.
So, who do I want to see in the first round? Minnesota.
If the Wild can somehow win the Northwest Division and settle into the 3rd seed and the Sharks maintain their current position at the 6th spot, then I will get my wish. Of all the teams currently sitting in playoff position, the Sharks match up best against the Wild. Our size, speed, and skill would simply be too much for the smaller Minnesota club (see one of my recent posts). In addition, given our most recent head-to-head (3-0 shutout win), I have a lot of confidence in our boys in teal.
