Sharks vs Ducks - 3.2.07
Craig Rivet scores, but Sharks lose fourth straight
San Jose, CA - On Friday night, the San Jose Sharks outshot the Anaheim Ducks (31-25), but again ended up with the short end of the stick. Team Teal loss their fourth consecutive game (Sharks 1 : Ducks 3) dropping their record to 4-5-1 in the last 10 games. They continue to struggle against the teams ahead of them in the standings and it has me a bit concerned.
The Ducks showed their ability to score on the power play as two of their three goals were with the man advantage. Unfortunately for the Sharks, their power play continues to struggle as it went 0 for 6 on the night. Bill Guerin continues to skate well, but has had little impact on the past two games. In fact, Chris Pronger's game-winning power play goal came with the newest Shark sitting in the penalty box for hooking. The only highlight of the night was Craig Rivet's 3rd period goal in his first game as a San Jose Shark since being traded from the Montreal Canadiens.
After the recent additions of Rivet and Guerin, I was expecting the Sharks to really take-off. Granted, some players have shown some life over the past few games (Nabokov and Michalek), but the results simply aren't there. If the Sharks maintain their current level of play and somehow make it into the playoffs, I would still be worried about a potential first round exit given the strength of the West. Let's hope I'm wrong...
