Sharks vs Canucks - 3.9.07
Team Teal's home disadvantage
San Jose, CA - On Friday night, the San Jose Sharks lost to the Vancouver Canucks, 2-1, in front of a hometown crowd. According to Victor Chi's article, in today's Mercury News, "Henrik Sedin popped in the winner by batting home his own rebound after Evgeni Nabolov, who finished with 35 saves, stopped him on a breakaway."
Usually, when your goalie makes 35 out of 37 saves, you expect a better result; unfortunately, Roberto Luongo was at the other end of the ice making 25 out of 26 saves.
The Sharks inability to win at home has Coach Ron Wilson confused and guessing:
"It just doesn't show at home the way it shows on the road. Some of our top guys, too, have just been like, 'Ahh, OK, it's home. I can relax.'"
The only Sharks goal was scored by team captain Patrick Marleau (30th of the season) on the power play with seven minutes left in the third period. Though the Sharks had three other power play opportunities on the night, 25 percent against the NHL's #1 penalty kill isn't too shabby...but just not enough.
Team Teal definitely needs to learn to win at home as they do on the road (currently, the Sharks have the most road wins in the league at 22). More than likely, the playoffs will start on the road for San Jose, so maybe this can be seen as a bit of a silver lining...but not really.
