The Tank is Growing Up
Good news Sharks fans, there are plans to renovate the HP Pavilion this summer. Though the arena opened its doors in 1993, it is currently the seventh oldest venue in the NHL. According to an article found on SJSharks.com, Greg Jamison and Mayor Chuck Reed have proposed a $16.5 million project that will address the arena's "sub-standard" facilities.
Jamison:
“The staff at HP Pavilion at San Jose takes great pride not only in providing world-class entertainment to our fan base but also in maintaining a state-of-the-art venue that the people of San Jose can take pride in."
Reed:
“HP Pavilion is San Jose’s premiere sports and entertainment venue, drawing hundreds of first class quality events to San Jose every year. It’s an economic engine that brings hundreds of thousands of people to downtown San Jose every year and we want to ensure that it continues to thrive in that role for the foreseeable future.”
Major Proposed Improvements
- Center Hung Scoreboard: Newer and bigger high-resolution LED screens.
- LED Fascia Display: Full color, moving LED displays around the rims of the upper bowl.
- Seating Area Sound System: Centralized system with clearer sound quality.
- HD Video Equipment Upgrade: Switch from analog to newer high-definition, digital technology.
