Ryane Clowe News Article
"Big winger talks about the upcoming season"
I found a very interesting article on Ryane Clowe which discusses his journey to the NHL and the desire it will take to improve on his breakout season last year. More importantly, you should take a look at the comments at the end of the article. Clowe's dad and two aunts chime in, along with other locals. It really proves that there is strong hometown support around Number 29.
Rather than summarizing the entire article, I wanted to comment on one thing that Clowe said to The Telegram, Newfoundland's daily paper.
"It's more pressure from myself. I want to take advantage of the opportunity given to me ... I'd like to hit the 20-goal mark, be a plus player and have over 100 penalty minutes, that way I know I've contributed in a lot of different areas. That's my main goal, to contribute a number of different ways."
I think Clowe hit the nail on the head with this comment; rather than simply trying to boost his point totals, Ryane is looking to make an impact all over the ice.
20 goal mark: I think this is very attainable, especially if he sees some time on the power play. At 6'2" and 225lbs, Clowe's big body in the slot will create opportunities for some hard-working goals. In addition, his presence in front of the goalie may help some shots from the point find their way into the back of the net.
Plus player: It is always nice to hear a forward who is concerned about his plus/minus. Nowadays, it's common to see players who want to hit 50 goals, but could care less about the defensive side of the ice. If Clowe keeps his plus/minus up, the Sharks will reward him with ice time (which every NHL player wants).
100 penalty minutes: Awesome. I am so glad to hear him say that; one of the best things he brings to Team Teal is his ability to drop the gloves. His size and toughness make him a feared player out there and it can lead to more open ice for his linemates. I must have watched his fight with Jordin TooToo (in last year's playoffs) at least 20 times, and every time I watch it, I can't help but get pumped.
Overall, I think that Number 29 will have a great year in San Jose as long as he stays focused and healthy. I'm sure the people in Newfoundland would agree with me...

wow, that's crazy so many people from his home, including his family left messages! That's pretty sweet. No way it's fake, who would do that? I mean, it wouldn't make much sense to me - although that is what I first thought.
