Michalek Defeats Chicago
Sharks 2, Blackhawks 1
For the second game in a row, one Sharks player accounted for all of the team's goals. Last game, it was Ryane Clowe. This time around, Milan Michalek did the damage. Fortunately, the game against Chicago ended up with Team Teal walking away two points richer.
I still have yet to see the Sharks dominate a team. With all of the preseason hype, I was expecting San Jose to just roll over the competition. Instead, I've seen the Sharks win a number of ugly games, beat themselves, and get embarrassed by Colorado.
On the other hand, I could look at things in a positive light. With all of the preseason pressure and the tough opening road trip, Team Teal somehow found a way to head home with five out of a possible eight points. Moreover, I guess I should be happy that San Jose can play bad hockey and still win...not many other teams can say that.
At any rate, it was good to see Michalek get on the scoreboard...twice. For the Sharks to have a good season, and a bright future, the young winger has to score. I know we're only four games into the year, but cold streaks can sneak their way into a player's season. Fortunately, Milan put an end to any potential droughts.
More importantly, both of the goals were scored on the powerplay...which is good news. Last year, the Sharks had the second best powerplay in the NHL, but it struggled through the first three games. However, last night, it looked sharp (2 for 6); quick passes, people crashing the net, players moving to open up passing lanes, strong puck possession...everything looked good.
Let's hope that all parts of the Sharks' game improves over the next few weeks because I don't want to just win...I want to dominate.
Note: There's a cool article on Ryane Clowe at NHL.com...check it out.
