Sharks Finally Win at Home

Sharks 3, Predators 0

Though the San Jose Sharks looked sloppy, I will definitely take the win. It took three tries, but Team Teal found a way to win at home. Unfortunately for Nashville, it was at their expense. I've got to believe that if Predators' fans had to pick a team to hate, it would be the Sharks.

In the first period, San Jose got off to a bad start. Having to kill off a number of powerplays, the Sharks never seemed to get any momentum going. Fortunately, Team Teal started to get things going in the second period. Thanks to a number of Nashville penalties, San Jose found a way to get on the board.

Taking a pass from Joe Thornton, Jeremy Roenick scored his third goal of the season, and the 498th of his career. Making the most of his ice time, JR continues to produce. I initially thought that the signing in the offseason was simply going to help our young guys development, but Roenick has shown that he can still play.

In the third period, the Sharks extended their lead thanks to a goal scored by Patrick Marleau. On the play, Christian Ehrhoff sent the puck to mid-ice where Torrey Mitchell quickly hit the Sharks captain in stride. Using his speed, Marleau got in on a mini-breakaway and put one past the Nashville goaltender. Later in the third, Milan Michalek continued his hot streak and scored an empty netter.

Overall, the Sharks still haven't put together a solid 60 minutes. However, in the second and third periods, San Jose consistently went to the body which was nice to see. By using their size and speed, Team Teal should be able to generate a lot of scoring chances against any team, so let's hope they keep it up.

Now that they finally won a game at home, the Sharks go back on the road. It will be a tough trip, but if San Jose can continue to improve, they should be able to pick up at least four or five points while away.

Note: Evgeni Nabokov did not have to make a lot of saves, but he did have to make some big key stops to earn his first shutout of the season, and the 35th of his career.
