San Jose Sharks Back On Top

Sharks 1, Coyotes 0

After a three game losing streak, the San Jose Sharks have gone on to win four in a row which now puts them in a tie with the Dallas Stars for first place in the Pacific Division. Each victory has been very close; in fact, one single goal has been the difference in the past four games. Fortunately for Team Teal, they've had just enough in each game to get the two points.

The Sharks came out to a quick start by putting 12 shots on net in the first period. Phoenix's goalie, Ilja Bryzgalov, was up to the task and made a number of saves to keep the game scoreless. It wasn't until late in the second period that the game saw its first goal.

With 16 seconds left in the period, Milan Michalek scored his 9th goal of the season, giving assists Joe Thornton and Jeremy Roenick. On the play, Michalek was set up in the high slot when the puck squirted out to him. With a quick swat, the puck was in the back of the net giving the Sharks the one goal lead.

In the third, the Sharks used strong defense and goaltending to keep Phoenix off the board which was key because the Coyotes were pressing hard to tie the game. Fortunately, Evgeni Nabokov owns the Coyotes and was able to stop all 12 shots on net. Nabby has now shut them out three times in the last three matchups, extending his shutout streak to 230:13 against Phoenix.

This win has brought the San Jose Sharks Win-Loss Chart to new heights. Tonight, less than 24 hours after the win in Phoenix, the Sharks will get a chance to bring the chart even higher.

Nabby is such the man these days, but I'm a little worried that he's going to be worn out come playoff time.
