Well, new Shark Brian Campbell has already helped Team Teal win a game. Last night, the veteran defenseman posted one assist and led the team in ice time with 24 minutes and 34 seconds. In addition, Number 51 was used in every scenario including the powerplay and penalty kill. Though Bernier had two goals and an assist for Buffalo last night, it is safe to say that we got the number one defenseman we were looking for...
To be honest, I didn't know that Brian Boucher was still playing hockey. At any rate, he does give us some depth in net. Moreover, he might be able to take a couple of games from Nabokov down the stretch to give Number 20 some rest before the playoffs. Overall, not too exciting, but a smart move.
With the addition of Brian Campbell to the lineup, the San Jose Sharks simply had too many defenseman. Consequently, one had to be moved...looking up and down the roster, Davison made the most sense.
It hasn't been a secret that the San Jose Sharks were looking for a puck moving defenseman, and it looks like they got him. Brian Campbell, an All-Star starting defenseman this year, is headed to San Jose for Steve Bernier and a 1st round pick. Now, Team Teal may be able to compete with all of the other Western Conference teams that have All-Star defensemen patrolling their bluelines.
Well, the San Jose Sharks sucked in New York going 0 for 2 against the Rangers and Islanders, but it sure seems that Team Teal likes playing in the great state of Pennsylvania. After dueling with the Philadelphia Flyers and skating away with two points, the Sharks rode into Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins. This game took a little bit more work, but the results were the same...San Jose leaving with two points for the standings.
Finally...the San Jose Sharks won a game. It's a good thing we ran into a team that was doing worst than we were. In the past eight games, the Philadelphia Flyers were winless, and after meeting with Team Teal, the streak now goes to nine. Though I'm relieved to get the two points, we still have a big hill to climb now that Dallas is seven points ahead in the standings.
The current San Jose Sharks losing streak is bad. Simply bad. The team out on the ice seems so foreign to me. How can Team Teal be playing so terribly? Is everyone worried about who's going to be around after the trade deadline? Or, do we just suck? No matter what the cause, these five losses are hurting the Sharks in the standings AND in the trade marketplace.
The NHL trade deadline is next Tuesday, giving GMs a little under seven days to make a move to improve their team for this year (or next year). Compared to past seasons, it sure feels like there haven't been many trades. According to NHL.com, there have only been 13 trades since January 1st. Morover, the biggest names that came out of these trades have been Modry, Stillman, Commodore, Tarnstrom, and Shelley...not really jaw droppers are they?
After losing to both the Rangers and the Islanders, San Jose has now dropped four in a row. I was hoping that time away from home would get Team Teal back into work mode, back to where they know how to win...boy was I wrong.
Tuesday night, the San Jose Sharks played a quick and physical game, but lost. After putting 43 shots on net, Team Teal walked away a loser. The Calgary Flames have now beat San Jose in three consecutive games. The Sharks dominated for nearly the entire game, but just couldn't close the deal. It was especially frustrating that Calgary tied the game with less than a minute left...something that San Jose couldn't do the last time these two teams met.
Given Jonathan Cheechoo's slow start this season, Number 14 was bound to have a better second half. Well, if the last seven games are any indication of what Sharks fans can expect from the Moose Factory native, then we're all in for an exciting stretch to the playoffs.
On Friday night, the San Jose Sharks were dominated for most of the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Fortunately for Team Teal, Evgeni Nabokov was absolutely on his game. Thanks to Number 20's outstanding performance, the Sharks were somehow able to walk away with two points.
Wednesday night was just one of those games that was physical, tough, and a little bit nasty. Cheap shots, high-sticks, cross-checks, fighting...the game had all of the rough stuff going. Granted, the referees could be blamed for not taking control because they did miss a lot of calls...a LOT of calls, but it made for a very entertaining game.
For the third time this year, the San Jose Sharks beat the Chicago Blackhawks by one single goal. I know that the Blackhawks are an improved team, but give me a break, Team Teal should be able to dominate these guys...especially with Jonathan Toews out of the lineup.
