Sharks Sign Brian Boucher

Veteran goalie signs for one year

To be honest, I didn't know that Brian Boucher was still playing hockey. At any rate, he does give us some depth in net. Moreover, he might be able to take a couple of games from Nabokov down the stretch to give Number 20 some rest before the playoffs. Overall, not too exciting, but a smart move.

Nabby has been healthy all season (*knock on wood*), but if he were to go down in the playoffs, we would be stuck with two rookies that haven't really showed me anything when put into the game. Granted, they haven't really seen much ice, but needless to say, I don't want our playoff lives sitting in their hands.

I know that Boucher isn't that much better given that he's been in the AHL more often than the NHL recently. However, this guy has seven years of experience, including a +.500 record in 21 playoff games. So at the very least, he's been through the stress of the playoffs.

Again, as I said before, not a blockbuster, but a smart move that adds depth in net.
