Sharks Putting Up Stats
Who is Marc Savard?
I was looking at the NHL stats this morning and saw that Joe Thornton was again in second place in the 'Assists Race'. I know that he's been battling the Boston Bruins' Marc Savard, but who is this guy? I never really heard much about him, but he seems to be keeping pace with arguably the best assist-man in the world. So here's a brief look at the Boston center.
Savard, now in his 10th season in the NHL, has posted a lot of assists over the last three years (69, 74, 63). I was surprised to see these numbers because I honestly don't know much about the guy. Clearly, he's a great play-maker, but maybe he's just not getting the recognition. I guess it doesn't help that he's spent most of his career in the Eastern Conference, but still...over the last three seasons, Savard has averaged 90 points...pretty impressive.
Savard NHL Totals: 655 games played, 169 goals, 405 assists, and 574 points.
Nabby Notes:
- First in the NHL with wins (40)...one ahead of Martin Brodeur.
- First in the NHL in games played (67)...one ahead of Martin Brodeur...again.
- Tied for 3rd in shutouts with six.
- Tied for fifth in goals against average (2.17)
Thornton Notes:
- As mentioned above, 2nd place in assists (62)...one behind Savard.
- Seventh place in total points with 81.
- Tied for seventh in powerplay points (32).
