Sharks Get Closer to Locking Up Pacific

Sharks 2, Ducks 1

On Friday night, the San Jose Sharks got two points closer to nailing down first place in the Pacific Division. Thanks to a gritty effort, Team Teal was able to skate away with the win and gain some confidence against an Anaheim team that has owned them in the past.

Granted, the Ducks were without Chris Pronger, Corey Perry, and JS Giguere, but a win is a win. One wise Sharks fan mentioned that the absence of these players shouldn't take away anything from the Sharks' victory because injuries (and suspensions) are a part of hockey AND they will continue to be a part of hockey in the playoffs.

Bottomline: On Friday night, both teams put out their best squads that were currently available and the Sharks were the ones that skated away with two points.

Notes:

  • The top line got things started quickly with a goal on their first shift, 40 seconds into the first period.
  • JR scored his 13th of the season...again on the powerplay...again a game winner.
  • Shelley and Parros dropped the gloves in the first period and it was a pretty good battle. Though it was a draw, I was happy to see Jody do well so soon after losing a fight to Boogaard.
  • On the night, the Ducks had 8 penalties to the Sharks' 3.
  • The Sharks put shots on Jonas Hiller, one of which came from a Cheechoo slapper that smacked the Anaheim goaltender right in the dome...Hiller ended up receiving a cut, but stayed in the game.
  • The Ducks only put 13 shots on Nabby all night and 0 in the third period...which made me feel a bit better about San Jose's ability to close out a game.
