Sharks Winning Streak Ends

Sharks 1, Oilers 2 SO

Well, it had to end sooner or later and I'm glad that it happened now instead of in the playoffs. Moreover, at least the loss wasn't to Anaheim or Dallas which would result in a four point swing. But I got to admit, it burns me a little that it was Edmonton that ended our streak. In fact, had we lost to St. Louis and then beat Edmonton, I think I would be much happier about the loss.

For some reason, the Oilers just know how to beat us. We are clearly the better team, but ever since losing to them in the playoffs, Edmonton just finds a way to get the job done. What is more annoying is that not only are they a bad team right now, but they are also a hurt team. A lot of their key players are out for the season, but on Sunday afternoon, it didn't make a difference. Oh well. As I mentioned before, if we were going to eventually lose, I'm glad it happened in the regular season and against a team outside of the Pacific Division race.

My Highlights:

  • Douglas Murray continues to be a force out on the ice. In the first period, Number 3 put a big hit along the boards that sent an Oiler down...even though he was able to get up and skate back to his bench, it was clear that he was hurt.
  • Patrick Marleau continues his strong play by scoring a powerplay goal in the first period and then again in the shootout.
  • Joe Pavelski and Brian Campbell on the blueline during powerplays seems to be working well. I worry about having a forward back on D, but Little Joe seems to be handling it well.
  • Even though he loss, Nabby looked pretty solid and only let in one single goal. On the night, Number 20 made 22 saves, including a couple in the shootout.
  • Dwayne Roloson was unstoppable after letting in that first one. If it weren't for his 48 saves, the Sharks would have blown out the Oilers.
