Stop Trying to Jinx the Sharks!

NHL.com Article: Sizzling Sharks hot at right time

For those of you who know me, you know that I am a bit superstitious when it comes to talking about the San Jose Sharks. To be honest, I'm a bit superstitious about almost everything. That's why one shouldn't be surprised when I say something positive about Team Teal, and then follow it up with a "*knock on wood*". It may seem a bit childish, but that's what I do; especially during a long winning streak.

Over the past nine games, the Sharks have walked away with two points. Much has been said of this new franchise record and I can't say that I haven't been nervous every time it has gotten any attention. Before each game, Randy Hahn and Drew Remenda have talked about San Jose's good fortunes. These two may be the most frequent offenders in regards to potential jinxes put on the Sharks. Fortunately, I think my knocking on wood has kept things running smoothly.

However, after reading the article on NHL.com, I don't think an number of raps on wood can help remove this jinx. Though it is a good article, I just have this bad feeling that it is going to give San Jose bad joo joo. It talks about how things are going great and how the Sharks are playing their best hockey of the year. In fact, even Joe Thornton is following in the footsteps of Hahn and Remenda:

"Our confidence level is as high as it possibly could be right now...really everybody is just playing really good hockey...we don't have have one thing necessarily that's going incredibly well, we're just playing every game real solid. Good defensive hockey. We're getting production from our second, third and fourth lines."

Hey Joe, could you pull it back a bit?! You might as well talk about how San Jose has dominated Nashville time and time again! Or maybe, remind everyone that a win tonight would give the Sharks their first ever season sweep of the Nashville Predators!

At any rate, let's hope that I'm wrong and that there's not such thing as jinxing.

I know that some may think that I'm a bit crazy for being so superstitious, but think about this...hockey players, in general, are the most superstitious of all professional athletes. Historically, from everything that I've read, some hockey player superstitions include always eating the same pre-game meal, not skating over lines, wearing old pads until they basically disintegrate, and many more. So, with that said, I'll keep knocking on wood...besides, better safe than sorry.
