Well, it's been a few weeks since I last posted and a lot has gone on with our San Jose Sharks. Soon after the season ended and the Chicago Blackhawks raised The Cup, General Manager Doug Wilson began his off-season sculpting of yet another team that has what it takes to win it all. In regards to Team Teal, that means resigning core players...adding new critical personnel...and letting go of those who no longer fit San Jose's game plan. With that said, here's a rundown of what's happened recently.
January 27, 2010
With four days in between games, Coach Todd McLellan decided to give his players two of those days off. Though the San Jose Sharks are just a handful of games past the middle of the regular season, it is important that everyone gets their rest...especially given the fact that eight of Team Teal's best will be skating extremely hard for two weeks at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

With four days in between games, the San Jose Sharks will get a chance to restup, work on a few things in practice, and prepare to take on the Chicago Blackhawks. Obviously, with the Hawks battling us for the best record in the league, it's going to be an important game. Though the result of next Thursday's match will provide the media and fans a lot to talk about, it really is just another game, just another two points. Of course, both teams would like to use the other as a measuring stick, but what ever happens that night probably won't positively or negatively impact the winner or loser all that much. With that said, I'd like to take a look at the Sharks performance through the last 53 games as this should give us a better idea of how Team Teal is performing...at least in my humble opinion.

The Calgary Flames come in to San Jose looking to get off of a four game losing streak. So far, they've taken one game from Team Teal, but look for the Sharks to try and take it to the Flames early. Though Calgary hasn't won recently, they've shown that they can still put the puck in the net as their loss to Anaheim was behind a four goal effort.

Well, I'm sure that a lot of you have heard, the San Jose Sharks are planning to release yet another third jersey. This alternate jersey will be a co-sponsored effort between Team Teal and Seagate. In fact, the new San Jose Sharks jersey will be named "BlackArmor"...just like Seagate's new portable hard drive. Given the name, I'm guessing that burnt orange will not be the primary color.

The San Jose Sharks are looking pretty good so far this year and a lot of thanks goes to the newly formed defense. However, good D isn't cheap. Along with Blake, Boyle, and Lukowich came a $13.3M price tag. So, how much are all of the Sharks making this year? Well, take a look below and you'll see that Team Teal is just under the salary cap this season...making San Jose one of the highest paid clubs in the NHL.

According to the Mercury News, a number of San Jose Sharks are already dinged up. We all know that Torrey Mitchell is going to be out of commission for at least 8 weeks (which sucks) due to a broken leg, but apparently there are a few other players not at 100% as well. Not a great way to start the season.

Ron Wilson fired
It was announced today that Ron Wilson had been relieved of his head coaching duties for the San Jose Sharks. The only thing surprising about this move is how quickly it happened and not the move itself. In past years, Team Teal's management team usually took a number of weeks off after a playoff elimination before making any moves or announcements. However, this time around, President Greg Jamison didn't wait to pull the trigger.

Sharks not as healthy as we'd hoped
I thought that the San Jose Sharks were generally healthy going into the playoffs and I still believe they were. However, after a grueling series with Calgary and then Dallas, Team Teal was banged up. Some of the reports released weren't surprising, while others were. Regardless, injuries are a part of the game and they shouldn't be viewed as excuses to a disappointing early exit. However, it is somewhat satisfying to know that a number of guys were hurt and not just lacking in heart.
