Well, there were a few games there where Ryane Clowe was putting up assists instead of goals. However, after last night's game, it looks like Number 29 is back to his old self...putting rubber into the back of the net.
I'm not sure what's going on, but it seems like the Sharks have been behind in a number of games recently...to less talented teams. Does Team Teal have a difficult time "getting up" for games against opponents low on the totem pole? Or, do other teams simply have that extra motivation going when they face the current "best team in the NHL"?
To be honest, I initially thought it was a problem with the Sharks, but now that I've had some time to think about it...it's probably the latter that's being played out on the ice.
I remember the days when the Sharks were pretty bad...unable to score and unable to keep from being scored on. However, during those dark times in the mid to late 90's, we always did find a way to play well against top teams like Detroit and Colorado. Now that we're one of the top teams, I think we're just seeing the other side of the coin. Every game we play, the opposing team seems to have that extra motivation and jump that gets them going early in the game. Fortunately, San Jose has shown that they are good enough to overcome this adversity and still come away with the two points. Good teams find a way...and at this point of the season, the Sharks are good. (*knock on wood*)

Notes:
- Brian Boucher continues to be an amazing backup netminder as he's improved his record to 8-1-1
- Even with his "goal scoring drought", Clowe now has 13 tallies on the season and this doesn't include the sick shootout backhander he used on Jason Labarbera last night
- Captain Patrick Marleau is absolutely on fire these days...it's just so much fun to see him doing so well out there
- The Sharks are now the proud owners of the NHL's best start in history through the first 30 games of a season...nice
- San Jose's special teams continue to be the difference as the PK killed off all 5 Los Angeles powerplays while the PP unit scored on its only opportunity
- Douglas Murray, king of the "hit-back", added a couple more victims to his list last night
- Jody Shelley racked up his 8th fight of the year last night putting him in a tie for 4th in the NHL for Fighting Majors
