Two days after losing to the Boston Bruins, a team the San Jose Sharks should have beat, Team Teal took care of the Edmonton Oilers by a score of 4 to 2. Thanks to two goals from struggling Devin Setoguchi and a solid 27 save effort from backup goalie, Thomas Greiss, San Jose picked up two more points to keep pace with the Chicago Blackhawks for the league lead in points (70 pts).
With the top line doing all of the scoring over the past two weeks before this game, the Sharks were fortunate enough to still gain seven points out of a possible 12. However, with a record of 3 - 3, it is clear that San Jose needs all of their young guns going if they want to dominate the competition.
Over the past few games, you could tell that some of the second and third line guys were holding their sticks a bit tight out there. To me, it seems the most obvious in Joe Pavelski. Number 8 is in the middle of a scoring drought, but the US Olympian seems to be getting his chances. Unfortunately, his shots have either gone wide or into the boots and shin pads of the opposing team. However, with a couple of bounces here and there, I'm sure Little Joe will regain his scoring touch soon.
Overall, it was good to see the Sharks win while getting Seto back on the score sheet. With his great start to the season, I figured that Number 16 would be around 20 goals or so by now...but you can't blame him for missing games and being rusty thanks to injuries.
At any rate, let's hope that the Sharks are back on track and they start dominating the competition once again.
