With four days in between games, Coach Todd McLellan decided to give his players two of those days off. Though the San Jose Sharks are just a handful of games past the middle of the regular season, it is important that everyone gets their rest...especially given the fact that eight of Team Teal's best will be skating extremely hard for two weeks at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Though the majority of the team rested, Dan Boyle, one of Canada's Olympic defensemen, took to the ice this week in anticipation of returning to the lineup against the Chicago Blackhawks.
As mentioned in previous posts, these two teams have very similar records. However, over the past 10 games, the Sharks' 8-1-1 record is better than the Blackhawks' 6-3-1 performance. Does that mean anything? Probably not, but I guess this is nice trend leading into Thursday's contest.
With the Blackhawks leading the season series between these two teams, San Jose will need to win Thursday just to get it even at 2 - 2. More importantly, a victory would mean two more points in the standings and a four point lead over Chicago for the best record in the league.
Well, the boys are rested and the table is set for an intense game that has the potential to feel like Game One of the playoffs.
