Going into the mini-break, I thought it would be nice for the San Jose Sharks to win. Not only would it be the beginning of a winning streak, but also an opportunity to keep those Olympic juices flowing. Almost all of the players who have come back from Vancouver seem to be playing with a lot of confidence. Fortunately, Team Teal found a way to win against Columbus' stellar goaltending and tenacious play.
After a scoreless first period, the San Jose Sharks found themselves down a goal early in the second when Andrew Murray snapped in his 2nd goal of the year. Though the Sharks launched 29 shots through the first 40 minutes of the game, Steve Mason made sure that nothing was going to get past him.
However, in the third period, San Jose finally solved their scoring problems when Dany Heatley and Joe Pavelski scored their 34th and 18th goals of the season, respectively. After an amazing performance, Mason found himself on the losing end of a 2 - 1 game.
With the win, San Jose can now look forward to a small break until their next game on March 11th. The days between games will be a nice opportunity for injured guys to get healthy, Olympians to get some rest, and the rest of Team Teal to work off the rust and prepare for the stretch towards the playoffs.
