With an opportunity to sweep the season series against their Southern California rivals, the San Jose Sharks dropped the ball. After an awful first period, Team Teal just couldn't get things going against the Anaheim Ducks. In fact, it wasn't until the third period when San Jose finally got on the board. Unfortunately, it was too late as the Ducks controlled the game from start to finish. With a disappointing loss to Florida yesterday, Team Teal has now dropped two games in a row in less than 36 hours...ugh.
In the first period, the Ducks rattled off three unanswered goals early by Corey Perry, Teemu Selanne, and Lubomir Visnovsky. Before they knew it, San Jose was staring at a three goal deficit with two periods left to play. Unfortunately, in the middle stanza, the Sharks couldn't get anything past Jonas Hiller as the Anaheim netminder stopped all 10 shots that he faced.
In the third period, San Jose finally scored when Joe Thornton put in his 18th of the year. With over 10 minutes to play and down by only two, the scene seemed set for yet another Sharks comeback. However, after that initial goal scored by Jumbo Joe, no rally was to be found. Instead, an empty-netter and a last second tally by Jamie McGinn was all that was left for fans to watch.
Without a game scheduled for tomorrow, San Jose better find a way to start winning games again as they face three opponents in the next five days...and they're not easy matchups either (Dallas, Vancouver, Calgary).
